Free Labor

How it started...

I had just graduated college and decided to move to Colorado in the fall and teach snowing skiing. I was home for the summer. Dave, the man that had worked for us for the past 16 years has had yet another kidney failure. He already had a kidney transplant several years ago and he was struggling again.

It is harvest time. Harvest and planting season are the two busiest times of the year and dad is short a man.

So what’s a farmer to do that doesn’t have a hired man? Solicit his daughter, who just happens to be home for the summer.... as free labor.

It was terrifying! I have never driven a tractor before. Yes seriously, even thought I grew up on the farm, I’ve never had to help dad. I’ve never had to drive, Dave has always been here. I had no clue what to do.

Dad promised that he would teach me..... Ya, right. Dad is not much on teaching.

He turned the tractor on, instructed me not to touch ANYTHING.

He showed me the brake, and the clutch and said to just follow the combine everywhere it went.

Never mind telling me about how to change gears, or what any of the numerous buttons did. Just, turn the steering wheel. So I did. I hope he finds a new hired man, and finds him soon.

How many days until I leave for Colorado?

Welcome!

This site chronicles the journeys in life we are traveling with God. Some are joyous, others are trials, all come with blessings and lessons. We are surviving Lyme disease and black mold poisoning, learned how to farm and we are embarking on the new adventure of foster care.

 Here is our story about

keeping a childlike

wondrous view of the world and

keeping a little twinkle in your soul

along the way.
